Approach
How the approaches differ
Price tells you how you pay, not what an app does to your files. Here is how Chronoframe works, followed by how each of the others describes itself.
Summarized from each vendor's own product page, in their terms. We have not independently tested these claims.
Gemini 2 (MacPaw)
MacPaw bills Gemini 2 as an intelligent duplicate file finder. Its page describes scanning the whole disk, finding “similars” and showing how they differ, a Smart Select that automates the choice, and an algorithm it says remembers what you keep and what you delete. A Duplicates Monitor flags new copies as they appear.
On removal, the page says duplicates go to the Trash by default, with options to delete them permanently or move them to a separate folder.

Cisdem Duplicate Finder
Cisdem describes matching on file content regardless of file names, using XXH3 hashing with a file-size pre-filter, and side-by-side previews across three view modes. It says it selects duplicates in each group automatically while leaving the original untouched, and offers manual selection plus rules for selecting in bulk.
Its page lists three removal choices: Move to Trash, Remove Permanently, and Move to Folder.

Nektony Duplicate File Finder
Nektony advertises byte-to-byte comparison — on its account, files differing by a single byte are not duplicates — across the Home folder, Photos and Music libraries, external disks, and cloud folders. It describes an Auto Select with customizable rules, selecting duplicates in bulk by folder, and finding similar photos and similar folders it can merge.
The page describes a confirmation step before deleting, a removal history, and restoring deleted duplicates from the Trash.

PhotoSweeper
PhotoSweeper offers Duplicates, Similar Photos, and Series of Shots modes, with a similarity threshold you can adjust while reviewing, Auto Mark rules for which copy to keep, and Auto Lock to keep already-sorted photos out of removal. It works in Finder folders, Apple Photos, Capture One, and Lightroom Classic.
Under Safe Removal, its page says the app never deletes files from a disk or a media library: photos go to the Trash from Finder folders, to a special album in Apple Photos, and to a Rejected collection in Lightroom Classic.
